MN website updated on 12/6 showing a status of paid. Stating, "A check had been sent to the owed party, on behalf of this deserving individual" I haven't received a check nor has my property manager said anything to us about receiving payment.

Although, no one has reached out to me or even replied to my many emails confirming this status, I'm hopefully MN wouldn't lie and update an applicant to "Paid" status without the proof to back it. So with that said, I'm just as grateful now as I was the day I found out my request had been funded. I tried to remain as positive as I could, considering my situation. I just truly hope MN can get some help with the backlog of Fully Funded applications.

Because some of the worst possible outcomes were paved on a road of the best intentions. MN has helped thousands of people and reached levels I'm sure their founder had only ever just dreamed of. I hope they don't lose site of the little things and our reminded of how important communication is. Helping strangers by strangers is amazing but giving false hope or leaving people in limbo is a horrible thing.

Best of luck to anyone currently in this boat, my advise to you is to take a deep breath and do not be afraid to ask questions be relentless if you must.

And again a million thanks to MN and the anonymous donors who gave so freely asking nothing in return. You're the true hero of this story!

Sadly, this has still not been resolved. Trying to remain hopefully but after getting hit by a major hurricane on top of previous problems its very difficult to stay positive.

I send an email every 2wks or so and receive very generic responses while meanwhile, MN continues to update new applications to a Fully Funded status, as well as accepting new applications for assistance. I'm just completely dumbfounded by the whole thing. As I read new thank you notes in the success stories I feel an overwhelming sadness that this people will have to go through what so many other have lately as well as feel bad for MN donors whom are oblivious to all of it. Once again, communication go so far!

At least reach out to people!

There's no shame in an organization that's done so much good over the years having to ask for help themselves. Mean while, I will pray I can keep my apartment for my son & I

My story starts back in mid June, just like many other MN applicants I too found myself jobless with no warning, no severance, barely an explanation from a company I had worked so hard for, for almost 3yrs. Being that I was employed as a server, The majority of my money made came daily.

This made things even harder for my family as we literally lived day-to-day, but always managed to get by. I eventually was hired on at another restaurant 3-weeks later, but had almost 2 weeks of training so it was a "To little--To late.." Kinda situation. Fast-Foward to July, an were now a month behind on everything, with monthly eviction notices and borrowing from Peter to pay Paul. So as one can imagine, receiving the official email on 10/10 that I had been "Fully Funded" only AFTER having reached out to them via email first to find out the status of my application, as it had already raised the necessary funding on 10/3.

I was told on 10/3 via my MN account it take 1-2 business days to go through "Admin Approval" I waited 7 days before emailing them. The same day I rec'd the email that I had been "Fully Funded" including links & directions on how to post my required, "Thank You- Testimony" I also rec'd an email response in regards to my original inquiry regarding my status, the email reply was firstly, addressed to the wrong person even though my name was clearly visible all throughout the email in which they were replying to stating generically, " I will look into this, but the time after an application being fully funded and a check being written can take some time. Please continue to have patience with us. We have not forgotten about you and will mail your grant check as soon as we are able." After reading that it didn't take long to presume that they're clearly overwhelmed if they're having to copy & paste such generic an vague response, ones in which they didn't even have time to change whom it was addressed to.

So everyday, I log on hoping to see my status updated to, "Paid" and try to remain positive an humbled that I was even chosen in the first place. However, with each passing day the fear grows higher, that this will be the month my apartment manager gets tired of our excuses and no more 3 day, "Pay or vacate" notices, that the next time it'll just be a court order. I have to hold out hope that there are truly good people out there, doing wonderful things to help out those whom find themselves on a dead end road. Hope alone changes peoples lives.

So in closing to my above ramble, I truly at heart still believe Modest Needs was founded with the utmost intentions of that of helping those who may have been turned down by everyone else, and found themselves in a great temporary need of assistance to get back on there feet. I just think they're noticeably understaffed and have over extended themselves in the efforts of helping as many people as they can, not realising doing so may have caused more harm rather then good. My advice, focus on those whom you've already promised to help before taking on new applicants. There's no shame in having to tell people, "Due to very high demands for assistance and working overtime to approve new applicants for donor review, MN has found themselves falling behind in regards to issuing payments to vendors of those who have been, Fully Funded.

And is doing the best they can to get caught up so they can then focus on providing the best possible assistance to new applicants." Reach out to the local NY community for temporary volunteers to assist with answering phones, verifying paperwork to help with the high demands of assistance applications.

Asking for help, is not a sign of weakness. Out of anyone, MN an it's founder, should understand that.

I too was given the name of Modest Needs to see if I can obtain help for past due bills. They wanted proof that I lost my job in February (I was forced to quit not fired).

Not to mention I was behind on my rent and I NEEDED to pay it, problem is my landlord is my mom and Dad. We rent from them and pay actual real rent, but because they are family we canโ€™t use MN to pay them (no money directly to families)...*sigh* still at ground zero and sinking.

Really sorry to hear this! ): sadly, most charitable organizations even local churches are not allowed to issue payment to a family member BUT maybe you could get help from them to pay your electric bill which could possible help with your rent? Best of luck to you & your family!

Thank you for your post. I was given they name Modest needs to ask for help to pay my rent. I am glad to know in advance not to expect anything when I ask them for help.
